At Shafritz & Dean, we know that every real estate transaction is unique. While many closings move smoothly from contract to closing table, others require a little extra patience, creativity, and personal attention. We believe that helping our clients through every step of the process is just as important as handling the legal aspects of the transaction.
Recently, one of our team members had the opportunity to do exactly that.
As a closing approached, we found ourselves waiting on a critical document needed to finalize the transaction: a payoff statement from HUD. Obtaining the payoff was the responsibility of the seller, but there was one significant obstacle standing in the way.
The seller was not comfortable with technology.
What might seem like a simple online process to some can be incredibly frustrating and overwhelming to others. The seller needed to access a HUD loan payoff portal, create the necessary login credentials, navigate the system, and submit the required information to generate the payoff statement.
Unfortunately, they were struggling with the process and becoming increasingly discouraged.
Without the payoff statement, the closing could not move forward.
Rather than simply directing the seller to a website and hoping for the best, our Pre-Closer took a different approach. She understood that the seller didn’t need another instruction sheet or email. They needed someone willing to walk alongside them through the process.
She spent more than an hour on the phone with the seller, patiently guiding them through every step of the HUD portal. Together, they worked through account creation, login issues, navigation challenges, and the various screens required to request the payoff.
There were moments when it would have been easy for the seller to become frustrated and give up. Instead, she remained patient, encouraging, and focused on helping them succeed.
Step by step, click by click, they worked through the entire process together.
Finally, the payoff statement was successfully obtained and delivered to our office, allowing the closing process to continue without further delays.
To some, this may seem like a small victory. To us, it’s a perfect example of what customer service should look like.
At Shafritz & Dean, we recognize that every client comes to the closing process with different experiences, skills, and comfort levels. What may be simple for one person can be challenging for another. Our job is not only to facilitate transactions but also to help people overcome the obstacles that stand between them and a successful closing.
In this case, a seller who was struggling with technology received the support they needed, the required payoff was obtained, and the transaction remained on track. Most importantly, the client felt supported rather than overwhelmed.
Real estate transactions can be stressful enough without feeling like you’re facing the process alone. That’s why our team is committed to providing personalized service and practical solutions whenever challenges arise.
Whether we’re resolving complex title issues, coordinating last-minute details, or simply spending extra time helping someone navigate unfamiliar technology, our goal remains the same.
At Shafritz & Dean, we do whatever it takes to help make the closing process successful—because when our clients feel supported and the transaction reaches the finish line, everyone walks away happy.
